Kodak NexPress Terminology

Note: With the exception of Dual Coat noted below, only one DryInk can be used per print order. They cannot be mixed, for example: You cannot use Dimensional Clear DryInk on the face and Protective Coat DryInk on the back of one printed piece.

Dimensional Clear - This is a clear DryInk that creates a raised effect on the printed piece. Dimensional Clear coverage cannot exceed 40% of the area to be printed. Dimensional Clear coverage must be done in the application file prior to placement of the print order. Can be applied to one side only or both sides.

Gloss Coat - A clear DryInk that creates a smooth, glossy finish and is applied over the entire surface of the printed piece. Cannot be applied as partial coverage when any other DryInk is used. Can be applied to one side only or both sides. Gloss Coat requires additional finishing which may increase turn times.

Protective Coat - A clear DryInk that creates a smooth, matte finish and is applied over the entire surface of the printed piece. Cannot be applied as partial coverage (see Spot Matte below.) Can be applied to one side only or both sides.

Spot Matte - A clear DryInk that creates a smooth, matte finish and is applied over predetermined area(s) the printed piece. Can be applied to one side only or both sides. Spot Matte coverage must be done in the application file prior to placement of the print order.

Dual Coat - The only time DryInks can be mixed on one printed piece is when a complete Gloss Coat is applied to one side and Matte or Protective is used on the other. The Matte or Protective coat can be used as a complete Protective coat or as Spot Matte. Copy must be clearly marked with Gloss and Protective or Spot Matte to each side. As in the use of Spot Matte noted above, Spot Matte coverage must be determined in the application file prior to placement of the print order.
